Adura is the name of the new company, which will become the UK's largest independent producer of oil and gas in the North Sea. The company is owned by Equinor and Shell, which will combine their UK offshore activities into a single integrated company.

In December 2024, Equinor and Shell announced that they would combine their UK oil and gas assets and technical expertise into one company. The aim is to ensure a stable and long-term energy supply to the UK and strengthen the exploitation of North Sea resources.

- We are so pleased to have reached this important milestone in the creation of the new company with Shell. For us, the name Adura represents the very heart of this company and speaks to its people and its place in the energy community anchored in Aberdeen, together with its long-term sustainability and commitment to the North Sea, says Camilla Salthe, CEO. CEO of Equinor UK Upstream, in a press release.

The name Adura is a combination of the A for Aberdeen and 'dura' as in durability – a reference to the city's granite foundations. The head office will be located in the Silver Fin building in Aberdeen, and the company will play a central role in the UK's energy supply and the further development of North Sea resources.

- Adura takes an exciting step forward today, revealing its new name – rooted in a proud history in the North Sea and with an eye towards delivering secure energy to the UK for many years to come. When Adura launches later this year, it will be the UK's largest independent producer. By bringing together assets and expertise, we are creating a robust portfolio with a shared purpose to realise long-term value, says Simon Roddy, CEO. Director of Shell UK Upstream.

Adura is expected to be launched before the end of the year, once the necessary regulatory approvals are in place.
