A Ukrainian diver arrested in Poland and suspected of the Nord Stream sabotage will not be extradited to Germany. A Polish court ruled on Friday, Reuters reports.

He was arrested in Poland in September after being wanted by German authorities in connection with the Nord Stream explosions back in September 2022.

The man has been referred to as "Volodymyr Z."

The arrest in Poland was based on a European arrest warrant.

Although the decision on extradition is solely the court's, Poland's Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, argued earlier in October that the man's extradition would not be in Poland's interest.

According to the Prime Minister, the problem was not that the pipelines running from Russia to Germany were blown up, but that they were even built to begin with.

The Ukrainian diver is not the only suspect in the case of the explosions.

As recently as mid-September, an Italian court ruled that a Another Ukrainian man, referred to by German police as "Serhii K.", was to be extradited to Germany in the case of sabotage of the two gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2.

The German prosecutor's office stated in August that the Ukrainian man had also been arrested by Italian police on the basis of a European arrest warrant.

Serhii K. is suspected of having coordinated sabotage against the two pipelines.
