Denmark and other countries are in "intense negotiations" with China to be allowed to examine the Chinese cargo ship "Yi Peng 3", which is anchored in the Kattegat for the seventh day.

This is reported by DR and Swedish SVT based on information from "central sources with insight into the negotiations". The sources are anonymous.

On Monday afternoon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a written comment to Ritzau that the ministry is "in ongoing dialogue with the countries most involved in handling this case, including China".

- Due to the ongoing case and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' cooperation with other countries, we cannot provide further information about the diplomatic dialogue, writes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Yi Peng 3" has been linked to sabotage in the Baltic Sea, where damage to two data cables was reported on Monday last week. The cables run between Finland and Germany and Sweden and Lithuania, respectively.

The Chinese ship passed the two data cables on its way from a Russian port, where a break was soon discovered.

In addition, the ship turned off its radio signal for almost eight hours while sailing through the area, according to data from Marine Traffic.

The cargo ship has been guarded by the Danish navy for several days. The defense has only confirmed that "we are present in the area" at "Yi Peng 3". This happened on Wednesday.

Data from the website Vessel Finder, which tracks ship routes, shows that the inspection ship "Hvidbjørnen" is in the vicinity of "Yi Peng 3" on Monday afternoon. The same is true of the vessel "Bad Dueben" from the German coast guard.

DR has also been in contact with a "central Danish source" who says that negotiations are also underway on whether China will allow Swedish authorities to question the crew of the Chinese ship.

It is not possible to force the ship into port or prevent it from sailing further, a Swedish police inspector has told SVT.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday morning that "China has maintained smooth communication with all parties involved in the incident through diplomatic channels". Spokesperson Mao Ning said this according to the Reuters news agency.
