Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen (V) is taking the matter of a Chinese ship, which is currently in the Kattegat, seriously. The authorities are following the situation closely, he said at a press conference on Wednesday.

- I am taking this very seriously, not least in light of the current foreign and security policy situation, says Troels Lund Poulsen.

The Chinese ship, which bears the name "Yi Peng 3", has been followed by the navy since Tuesday. It has been linked to two breaches of international data cables in the Baltic Sea.

This concerns a cable that connects Gotland with Lithuania and one that sends data between the German city of Rostock and the Finnish capital Helsinki. The breaches have occurred at locations along the route that "Yi Peng 3" has been sailing since the ship set sail from the Russian port of Ust-Luga near St. Petersburg.

However, it is still unclear what exactly caused the cable breaks, but Sweden and Germany have raised suspicions of sabotage.

DR wrote earlier on Wednesday that the action surrounding the Chinese ship was Swedish-led and that the Danish authorities have been involved. Troels Lund Poulsen is cautious about saying too much about the specific incident.

But he says that he discussed the matter with his Nordic colleagues on Wednesday and how they view the process, which "fills a lot with good reason".

- It is no secret that the Armed Forces have been following the ship, and that is why the relevant Danish authorities are also concerned with this matter, he says.

On Wednesday at noon, the Armed Forces confirmed its presence around the ship. This happened in a post on the social media X.

- The Danish Defence can confirm that we are present in the area of the Chinese ship "Yi Peng 3". The Danish Defence currently has no further comments, the Danish Defence wrote.
