All business people leave Frederikshavn's port board: Outgoing member criticizes mayor

Mayor Birgit S. Hansen (S) called the resignation of four business people in the municipally owned port undramatic, but one of the departing members does not recognize that story.

FREDERIKSHAVN: Things are happening at the municipally owned Frederikshavn Port. On Thursday morning it was announced that chairman Bo Uggerhøj and deputy chairman Lars Karlsson of the port's board will step down with immediate effect after nine and 15 years on the board, respectively. According to Mayor Birgit S. Hansen (S), it happened completely undramatically.

- Their resignation is completely undramatic and planned. We were told at the beginning of the year that after ten years on the board, they believed that the time had come to find new forces, she said in a press release.

But after a meeting later Thursday between the remaining part of the board and representatives from the city council with "the city council's refusal to sell off areas at Frederikshavn Port" on the agenda, another press release had to be issued.

The reason was that the remaining external board members of Frederikshavn Port, Leif Pedersen and Lotte Rosenberg, had chosen to withdraw.

- After the meeting, the two remaining external members announced that they are leaving the board today. Therefore, we are faced with having to find four new members for the board of directors of Frederikshavn Port, it was stated in press release no. 2 about Frederikshavn Port on Thursday, from Birgit S. Hansen.

On TV2 Nord, Bo Uggerhøj confirmed on Friday the disagreement between the municipality and the port board regarding a possible rejection of some, according to him, "not important" areas in the port. He emphasized, however, that the departure of the chairmanship had nothing to do with this disagreement.

- I see a lot of it as undramatic, but when four stop at the same time, it looks dramatic, says the outgoing chairman of Frederikshavn Port.

Criticizes mayor for self-will

According to one of the resigning members, Leif Pedersen, the departure is not as undramatic as the mayor wants it to sound.

- It is not only about the sale of land, but it is the most peaceful of a number of reasons why we have withdrawn. I do not consider the buttons that have been pressed in relation to this situation to be undramatic. It is about something completely different, and it seems to me that the mayor has had a different agenda that she wants to trump through. As queen of the municipality for many years, I believe that in this case she only hears herself in the room, Leif Pedersen tells Kanal Frederikshavn.

Leif Pedersen states that he and Lotte Rosenberg were ready to continue on the board after the chairman's departure, a departure that he does not believe is as undramatic as Birgit S. Hansen expresses in the press release. Despite the desire to continue, the members withdrew when the mayor expressed distrust in them.

Birgit S. Hansen is annoyed by the criticism from Leif Pedersen, but she also declares that she does not understand it, since the city council, as the owner, has no intention of selling land at Frederikshavn Harbour.

- At that meeting (Thursday ed.) two members of the board maintain that they saw the sale of the port's land as part of the future strategy. As representatives of the owners, Peter Sørensen (city council member for the Liberal Party ed.) and I made it clear that the city council did not want that. We are not selling pieces of our common harbor. I can understand that Leif Pedersen is surprised that I took the floor, but that is my job as chairman of the city council, she tells lokalmediet on Monday.

She also maintains that she has received another statement from outgoing chairman Bo Uggerhøj that it is entirely in line with the replacement plan that he is quitting.

The board of Frederikshavn Havn now consists of city council members June Menne (S), John Lamp Henriksen (K) and employee representative Flemming Berg Christensen. The hunt for new members has begun, the municipality informs.
