Ørsted is ranked ninth on Corporate Knights’ annual Global 100 list, which ranks the world’s most sustainable companies based on an overall assessment of their sustainability efforts. This is the same position as last year and the ninth consecutive year that the company has been on the list. The company states this in a press release.

According to Corporate Knights, Ørsted's high ranking is due, among other things, to the fact that 91 percent of the company's revenue in 2024 came from sustainable activities, while 99 percent of investments in the same year were sustainable. At the same time, Ørsted has reached its industry-leading CO2 reduction target and completed the transition from a fossil-based energy company to a company with a primary focus on renewable energy. Today, renewable energy accounts for 99 percent of total energy production, and the CO2 intensity from scope 1 and 2 emissions has been reduced by over 98 percent compared to 2006.

- We are pleased to be recognized by Corporate Knights as one of the world's leading companies in sustainability and to once again be among the ten most sustainable companies in the world this year. Our ambition is to deliver more green electrons to the grid in a sustainable way and to help communities, companies and countries reduce their CO2 emissions using green, safe and cost-effective energy, says Ingrid Reumert, Senior Vice President and Director of Communications and Sustainability at Ørsted.

Ørsted also states that the company will continue to work to reduce its scope 3 emissions and reach the goal of net zero emissions. The company currently has a construction portfolio of 8.1 GW and a total renewable energy capacity of 18.5 GW and, according to the press release, is continuing to expand a green and cost-effective energy system.

- Sustainability is a central part of Ørsted's DNA, and I am proud of our position. 2025 was the first year that we did not use coal in our electricity and heat production, and it was also the year that Ørsted completed its transition to green energy. Thanks to dedicated efforts across the entire business, we are helping to create a world that runs exclusively on green energy – and the recognition from Corporate Knights is a testament to that, says Ingrid Reumert.

Ørsted is not the only Danish company to have made the list. Novonesis A/S has taken a big leap from number 49 to number 8. The opposite has happened for Vestas, which has fallen 45 places to number 48. A debut on the list has been made for cable manufacturer NKT, which can note a 13th place. Novo Nordisk (51st place) and Pandora (2nd place) are also on the list, which is topped by Italian energy company ERG SpA, which produces electricity from renewable sources such as wind and solar energy.

Vestas and Ørsted have both previously topped the list, which is based on Corporate Knights' studies of more than 8,000 companies with a turnover of more than one billion dollars.
