A new digital template is intended to make it easier for companies to apply for permits for raw material extraction and at the same time improve the authorities' case processing.
The template is intended to help applicants take environmental conditions and possible conflicts into account before submitting an application.
The initiative is backed by the public data collaboration Denmark's Environmental Portal, the North Denmark Region and the Central Denmark Region, and is financed by the government's entrepreneurship pool.
According to Danish Regions, the regions receive around 100 applications per year, and the cases often drag on because information is missing in the applications.
- It happens relatively often that we receive applications where a decision has not been made on, for example, protected nature, protection lines or watercourses, etc. Then we have to send them back, and that costs both time and resources for all parties, says Jacob Frydkjær Winde, biologist and raw materials case manager in the North Jutland Region, adding that the template should also give applicants a more realistic picture of the complexity of the projects early in the process.
According to Karl Rasmus Sveding, project manager at Denmark's Environmental Portal, the goal is a "more transparent and uniform process, so that both authorities and applicants get a tool that provides a common starting point and overview".
The template is now available via the EA-Tools platform and will later be distributed to more regions.
