The phasing out of gas and the phasing in of onshore solar and wind must be accelerated through the establishment of a national energy crisis team (Nekst).
On Wednesday, Minister for Climate, Energy and Supply Lars Aagaard (M) will present the first members of two working groups, which will challenge conventional thinking and boost the process.
- The ambition is easy. We want to do it all in half the time. But that is easier said than done, says Aagaard at a press conference at Amagerværket.
The working groups work under Nekst. Over the course of nine months, they must point out barriers in the green transition and come up with proposals for solutions. The idea is that proposals for concrete efforts can be initiated quickly - also while the working groups are still working. The energy crisis staff is permanent, and according to Aagaard, other working groups will be set up at a later date.
- It has been important to me that the work of finding recommendations is not about finding something around which a consensus can be found. This is the best offer from you and your team, which is given to me on behalf of the government. Afterwards, we as the government have to see if we think the analysis is good and if we want to follow the recommendations that come, says Lars Aagaard.
Two working groups
Nekst is inspired by Nost (The National Operative Staff), which was launched during the corona period, and which was supposed to contribute to solving the acute challenges during the pandemic.
Initially there are two working groups. One must identify barriers in relation to how gas is phased out from Danish homes. It will be headed by the chairman of the Industry Foundation, Lars-Peter Søbye. He tells the press conference that the other members of his working group will be presented soon.
The second working group will look at how to expand solar and wind on land, where the installation of wind turbines has stalled. Nana Bule, who is an advisor at Goldman Sachs, will be in charge of that project.
The members of the working groups will consist of representatives of the energy sector, authorities and municipalities. In addition, there must be representatives of business and academic experts in Nekst.
