With an investment of 300 million DKK, Lindø Offshore Renewables Center (Lorc) will build the world's most powerful test bench for wind turbine nacelles on the Odense Harbor area at the old Lindøværft.
The new test facility must help support the Port of Odense as a leading area for the development and production of solutions within green energy. As part of the investment of 300 million DKK includes a grant of DKK 80 million. from the Ministry of Energy's Greenlab programme.
- With the expansion of our facilities, we emphasize our position at the top of the world class in our field. At the same time, we are proud to offer our customers at the Port of Odense the optimal conditions for developing their products and companies. We have an excellent collaboration with Kerteminde Municipality, which with a minimum of administration makes it possible to grow in step with the development within wind energy, says Torben Lorentzen, CEO of Lorc, in a press release.
Already has capacity for larger turbines than exist
Right now Lorc has facilities to test nacelles up to 25 MV, a turbine size that has not yet seen the light of day. But with the increased focus on wind energy in the future, facilities that can test nacelles on an even larger scale will be needed, Lorc expects.
- We have far from seen the peak in the size of the wind turbines that will be installed in offshore wind farms around the world in the future. We are therefore excited to be able to contribute to that development happening in Denmark and in Kerteminde Municipality, says Torben Lorentzen, CEO of LORC.
Construction will begin as early as the first half of 2024, when the concrete foundation for the facility will be built and poured under the open sky before the building is erected around it. Danish R&D Test Systems is responsible for building the test facility itself, while the hall around the test facility is being built by the Port of Odense.
The new test facility is expected to be able to begin commercial operation by the end of August 2025
