The government has secured the necessary mandates to save Climate Minister Lars Aagaard (M) in a vote of no confidence in the Folketingshallen. This is clear after independent Theresa Scavenius tells DR that she will not vote to overthrow the minister. Instead, she will vote blank.
- I do not think this case is serious enough to overthrow a minister, she tells DR.
This means that the government has the support of 90 mandates in this matter. It requires a majority against the minister if he is to be overthrown.
The government now has its own 85 mandates, support from independent Jon Stephensen, three North Atlantic mandates and a blank vote from Scavenius. This means that the government can count to 90.
Even if the opposition has withdrawn the case of no confidence in Lars Aagaard to a vote in the Folketing, on paper he will not be threatened. But when the whole matter comes down to a question of votes in the Folketingshallen, it is crucial that all 90 of the government's supporting mandates actually show up physically. That is also the intention, says the Danish People's Party's climate spokesman, Nick Zimmermann.
- We expect that the Nordic mandates intend to stand up and tell why on earth they suddenly support Lars Aagaard. Because this smells very, very strange, he says.
