The Danish C25 index has opened in the red after major price falls abroad. After fifteen minutes of trading, the index was down around 3.5 per cent. Since then, it has corrected itself slightly, so that the index around 9.50 stands for a fall of approximately 2.4 per cent. Finally, the C25 index fell by over three per cent. in a single day, was in September 2022.

At the time, it was nervousness in connection with inflation and interest rate increases that affected both the Danish stock market and the international markets.

C25 is the leading Danish stock index. The index is composed of the 25 most traded shares on the stock exchange in Copenhagen. The most valuable companies take up most of the index, so fluctuations in the largest share prices mean more to the development than in the smaller companies.

At the top of the index is Maersk, which at 9.50 is down by less than one per cent. for both the A and B shares. It looks worse for Zealand Pharma, Rockwool and Vestas, which are at the bottom with a drop of over four per cent. at 9.50.

Following trends from abroad

Also abroad, at the end of last week there have been large price drops.

On Monday, the Japanese Nikkei 225 index closed with a fall of 12.4 per cent. According to the AP news agency, this is the biggest drop in the index since the stock market crash in 1987 - also known as Black Monday.

The Japanese central bank last week raised interest rates for the second time in 17 years, and there is speculation that interest rates may be raised once more. This has strengthened the Japanese yen, which is a negative factor for the Japanese export companies.

Furthermore, at the end of last week, several key figures came out that made investors worldwide worried about the American economy. On Friday, the US jobs figure, which indicates the number of new jobs in the US outside agriculture, landed. The number landed at 114,000, which was significantly lower than expected.
