The Ministry of Business and Industry had barely announced this morning that Denmark will get 11 new industrial parks with quick access to establish itself as a company before it poured in with happy comments from the mayors of the municipalities that will get an industrial park.

On Lolland, Mayor Holger Schou Rasmussen (S) calls it "fantastic news" that one of the national industrial parks is planned to be located at Rødbyhavn.

- This could be the beginning of a new industrial adventure that can provide our region with an important boost, he says.

The area covers almost 800 hectares and contains the Fehmarnbyggeriet's production factory, which can later be used for new purposes, Denmark's fourth-largest working port, and the areas behind it to the north. However, the agreement contains a small reservation that it must first be clarified how the tunnel element factory and the working port will be organized in the future.

- Market dialogue has been carried out in advance with a large number of companies, and with the new status as a national industrial park, it is obvious that interest will only increase. Our expectation is that in the long term it will be able to create thousands of additional jobs, attract immigrants from both Denmark and abroad and contribute to creating new life and community, says Holger Schou Rasmussen.

1,500 new jobs in Aalborg

In Aalborg, Mayor Lasse Frimand Jensen (S) is both happy and proud that Aalborg is getting an industrial park.

- We stand on a strong industrial heritage and use it as a springboard to create new frameworks for the green production of the future, he says.

The municipality has dedicated 243 hectares of commercial land on both sides of the Limfjord at Østhavnen and Norbis Park for the purpose - with the possibility of expanding to a total of 497 hectares. There is direct access to the port, motorway, railway and airport and space for Power-to-X, CO2 capture, storage and utilisation, wind industry, logistics, circular production, etc., the municipality highlights.

It has already received support from over 25 stakeholders including Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (PtX), EWII, Fidelis, Aalborg Portland and Siemens Gamesa. Their planned investments alone amount to over DKK 10 billion. DKK and is expected to create 1,500 new jobs within energy technology and green production, the municipality informs.

The world's largest Power-to-X plant

The new 696-hectare industrial park in Kassø, which is already one of the country's largest business areas for green transition, will be located in Aabenraa.

- We see the designation as a seal of approval for the efforts that we are already well underway in the business area and in the green area, says Mayor Jan Riber Jakobsen (K).

- We are already working in Kassø with the world's largest Power-to-X plant, Northern Europe's largest solar cell plant, and we have more on the way. We also have a strong focus on exploiting the full potential of the green transition, just as we are also constantly looking into getting more green jobs. We will strive to ensure that the designation here benefits the whole of Southern Jutland, he adds.

Electricity and hydrogen

In Esbjerg, Mayor Jesper Frost Rasmussen (V) calls the new industrial park at Korskro Vest "really good news for Denmark and for our municipality".

He emphasizes that the 165-hectare area, which can be expanded to 230 hectares, is located directly on the national special transport route and in the vicinity of both existing and future electricity and hydrogen infrastructure, which gives companies within wind, energy, hydrogen and PtX a significant logistical advantage.

- The government's decision confirms Esbjerg's strong position and our long-term efforts to create space for green production. We are ready to take on the task. The first areas are expected to be put up for sale by the end of the year, and there is already dialogue with interested companies, he says.

Up the transport corridor

In Næstved, a 207-hectare industrial park, "Industrial Hub Zealand", will be located between Tappernøje and Bårse. This pleases Næstved Mayor Carsten Rasmussen (S) and Mayor Mikael Smed (S) from Vordingborg, who is a co-applicant.

- We have a well-founded expectation that both Danish and European companies see great potential in locating themselves close to the transport corridor between Scandinavia and Central Europe. The logistical connections make our national industrial park an obvious choice for companies within production and green technology, Carsten Rasmussen believes.

Mikael Smed adds that Industrial Hub Zealand gives industrial companies opportunities to become part of Eastern Denmark's powerhouse for green energy and transformation. They will be able to benefit from green electricity from a nearby renewable energy project and connection to the new gas pipeline.

Bio solutions in Viborg

In Viborg, the new industrial park in Foulum will be located in connection with Aarhus University's department and Agro Business Park and next to Apple's data center, which is expected to be able to supply surplus heat in the long term.

- This is a huge opportunity for Viborg and for companies both nationally and internationally. We will get a place where production can establish itself and grow quickly - close to knowledge, labor and infrastructure. This is good news for local jobs, investments and growth, says Mayor Ulrik Wilbek (V).

The desire is to develop the Foulum area into an international hotspot for the sustainable agriculture, bioeconomy and biosolutions of the future. The municipality is now going to start making a local plan for the area.

Green innovation

In Ikast-Brande, Mayor Ib Lauritsen (V) calls it "a historic day" for the municipality that the Pårup business area has been designated as an industrial park.

- We have worked hard to show that we have both the will, the skills and the framework to undertake a national task like this - and I am incredibly proud that we have now succeeded, he says.

The municipality expects that Pårup, which has access to good infrastructure, labor and green supply, will become a place where green innovation and heavier industry can go hand in hand.

In Horsens, the new industrial park in the Nova business area will be located close to the motorway and - the municipality emphasized in its application - close to the airport and several commercial ports and freight rail terminals.

- This is a big day, and I am proud that we have been chosen from so many strong candidates. It is a vote of confidence in Horsens as a modern industrial city, says Mayor Peter Sørensen (S).

The industrial park initially comprises 343 hectares divided into two phases, one that is ready for construction and one that is under planning. There is a possibility of further expansion later.

Qualifications in Kerteminde

In Kerteminde Municipality, the Odense Port industrial area in Munkebo has been designated as an industrial park. It is being received positively in the municipality - albeit with less enthusiasm than in several other places, as there are strongly divided opinions about a planned expansion of the port.

The industrial park only applies to the current industrial area where the Lindøværftet shipyard was previously located, and not to a possible future expansion of the port, the municipality therefore emphasizes in a press release.

- The designation of the Odense Port area as a national industrial park will contribute to future-proofing the existing area and the many associated jobs, says Mayor Kasper Ejsing Olesen (S).

The Odense Port area currently contains the municipality's largest concentration of companies and several thousand jobs.

Red carpet scheme

  • Companies in the new industrial parks will be covered by the new 'red carpet scheme', where case processing are gathered in a one-stop shop with faster and smoother case processing, which makes it easier for companies to establish and expand their facilities.
  • The one-stop shop is run by the Danish Business Authority in collaboration with municipalities and state authorities and has a coordinating function.
