A man lost his life in September in a lifting accident at Equinor's Mongstad refinery. The deceased was an employee of Crane Norway, which provides crane and lifting services to Equinor. Despite the accident, Equinor's safety results for the third quarter of 2025 show a positive trend. The energy company said in a statement.

- The accident and the tragic outcome have had a profound impact on us. A colleague lost his life while working for Equinor, and it reminds us of the importance of the safety work we do together with our suppliers, says Jannicke Nilsson, Group Director of Safety, Security and Sustainability at Equinor.

The frequency of serious incidents per million working hours (SIF) decreased to 0.23 against 0.27 in the second quarter, while the total recordable injury frequency (TRIF) decreased from 2.2 to 2.1. In addition, four oil and gas leaks were recorded during the past 12 months – the lowest number ever. No incidents with major accident potential were reported during the quarter.

Equinor also states that the company continues its preventive work through the "Always Safe" program, which in the fourth quarter focuses on health and working environment. At the same time, efforts against major accidents are being strengthened through management training and e-learning courses, which are also offered to suppliers.

- We aim to continue and strengthen our long-term and systematic cooperation with suppliers and other operating companies to improve safety, says Jannicke Nilsson.
