Applications have been pouring in to the Danish Energy Agency to build offshore wind farms under the so-called open door scheme. Specifically, the Danish Energy Agency has received 27 applications for new offshore wind turbine projects in the period April 2022 to June 20, 2022.
However, several of these are rejected right out of the gate as the applications in several cases enter areas that have already been set aside due to government land reservations. Specifically, these are 16 applications in the following areas: Aalbæk bay, Esbjerg, Falster, Hanstholm, Hirtshals, Stevns, Tønder and Djursland, the Danish Energy Agency informs DK Vindkraft.
"The Act on the Promotion of Renewable Energy states that applications cannot be submitted outside of tenders that completely or partially overlap with the state land reservations. Applications received in these areas must be rejected by the Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities," the Danish Energy Agency writes in a press release.
The Danish Energy Agency has apparently not been aware of this in the first place, which is why several regulatory hearings have previously been initiated.
As a result, the Danish Energy Agency has therefore decided to cancel the regulatory hearings on the offshore wind farms at Hanstholm, Stevns and Falster.
