Tariffs should be increased again for EU goods, as trade negotiations between the EU and the US are getting nowhere.

US President Donald Trump said this on Friday in a post on his social media, Truth Social.

He is thus recommending a 50 percent tariff from June 1 for goods from the EU.

In the post, he says that "the European Union, which was formed with the main purpose of exploiting the US in the area of trade, has been very difficult to deal with".

Trump continues:

- Our discussions with them are getting nowhere! That is why I recommend a 50 percent tariff on the European Union starting June 1, 2025. There is no tariff if the product is built or produced in the United States.

According to the news agency Reuters, the EU Commission refuses to comment until there has been a call between the EU's trade chief and the US trade representative.

Trump says that the US trade deficit with the EU is "totally unacceptable". He accuses the EU of "trade barriers, tariffs, ridiculous corporate penalties, currency manipulation, unfair and unjustified lawsuits against US companies and more".

The Danish C25 index has taken a dive on Trump's announcement. The same applies to European and American stocks.

The US president's course on tariffs has been marked by a veritable barrage of different announcements in recent months.

In April, Trump announced tariffs of ten percent on all imports to the US and much higher tariffs for a number of countries and regions, including 20 percent tariffs on most EU goods.

However, the much higher tariffs were temporarily suspended so that the US could negotiate agreements with individual countries.

The EU tariffs were thus halved until July 8, but a tariff of 25 percent has been maintained for cars, steel and aluminum.
