Donald Trump threatens the EU with a 200 percent tariff on wine, champagne and alcoholic beverages if the EU does not remove tariffs on whiskey. The president writes this on his social media, Truth Social.
- The European Union, one of the most hostile and abusive tax and customs authorities in the world, which was formed solely for the purpose of exploiting the United States, has just put a disgusting 50 percent tariff on whiskey, Trump writes.
If the EU does not remove its tariffs on whiskey "immediately", Trump will "retaliate shortly", it says. The tariff threat applies to all wine, champagne and other alcoholic products shipped out of France and other EU countries, Trump writes.
- It will be excellent for wine and champagne companies in the United States, Trump concludes.
On Wednesday, a 25 percent US tariff on steel and aluminum went into effect. The tariff applies to all imports of the two materials. In response, the EU Commission has announced that it will retaliate by imposing tariffs on 26 billion euros worth of goods from the United States. This corresponds to almost 194 billion kroner.
The Commission has published a 99-page list of goods that can now be subject to tariffs. The majority of the goods on the list are in the categories of poultry, fruit, vegetables and alcohol.
