SØNDERBORG: A large natural area with outdoor activities can become part of a new area for solar panels at Vester Sottrup in Sønderborg.
The municipality's Technology, Urban and Housing Committee has approved that a local plan for the project be made, which is planned based on principles that the Finance Committee approved earlier this year. Principles that, among other things, must ensure that the local area is included in the process and that the projects contribute to the development of the local area.
Earlier this year, a local plan for a solar panel plant in Lavensby was initiated, and now the project at Vester Sottrup is next in line:
- The principles must ensure that solar panels and wind turbines contribute to the development of the local areas where they are placed. We have had a really good process in Lavensby, and we are already well underway at Vester Sottrup, explains Kirsten Bachmann, who is the chairman of the technical, urban and housing committee.
Municipal plan required
The project requires that a local plan and a municipal plan supplement be prepared for the area, which currently constitutes 85 hectares of agricultural land. The ambition is that 66 hectares will be used for solar panels, eight hectares will be used for a nature area, and approximately 11 hectares will be used for a technical area. The plan is also to establish screening planting around the entire project area.
The plant is expected to produce 96,000 megawatt hours per year, corresponding to the electricity consumption of approx. 20,000 households.
