New figures show great variation in solar cell installations across municipalities, with large cities in particular lagging behind.

There are significant differences in the number of private solar cell systems across the country's municipalities. Rebild Municipality has the most active private systems with 975.7 systems per 10,000 inhabitants, while Frederiksberg Municipality has the fewest with just 1.3 systems per 10,000 inhabitants. This is shown by new figures from the Danish Energy Agency, which 1KOMMA5° Danmark, which produces solar cell systems, has gained insight into.

- We see huge differences at the municipal level in Denmark, but it is not really that surprising, as the legislation in the specific municipalities is very different and has a great influence on how easy it is to get solar cells. For example, Frederiksberg Municipality, which is at the bottom of the list, where enormous amounts of documentation are required to obtain a building permit for solar cells, says David Sätterman, CEO of 1KOMMA5° Denmark.

Specifically, the calculation shows that there are currently 147,076 active private systems in Denmark, but the distribution of the systems is skewed. In particular, the municipalities west of the Great Belt are at the top, while several urban municipalities lag behind.

According to David Sätterman, the large differences are due to, among other things, municipal requirements and rules for documentation and building permits.

- In general, urban municipalities with older buildings – e.g. Frederiksberg Municipality or Copenhagen Municipality – have stricter requirements, while rural and provincial municipalities typically have more lenient requirements. This is also the general trend we can see in the report, he says,

He points out that especially urban municipalities with older buildings have stricter requirements, while rural and provincial municipalities generally have more lenient rules. The top 10 list of municipalities with the most private installations per 10,000 inhabitants is dominated by Jutland municipalities, with only Allerød and Fanø Municipality standing out as non-Jutland. The entire list can be seen here.
