RINGKØBING-SKJERN: With the ambition of getting a comprehensive overview and a better basis for decision-making, Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality now calls on all potential installers of wind turbines and solar cells to submit their application no later than March 1, 2024.

The call also applies to applicants who have already applied, they must therefore reapply for their project if they want to ensure that their application is considered for a place, the West Jutland municipality states in a statement.

The application round, which also includes projects that have already been applied for, will give the administration and politicians a comprehensive overview of all applied projects, and give politicians a better basis for decision-making when they have to decide which renewable energy plants to initially work on and subsequently plan for.

- In Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality, we are ambitious on behalf of the climate, and with the municipality's location, there are opportunities to build varied types of renewable energy plants and to integrate these projects with other value-creating initiatives such as the extraction of low-lying soil, says chairman of the municipality's Technical and Environmental Committee Ole Nyholm Knudsen (V).

Want to ensure more local involvement

The new application round is a product of a revision of the municipal plan's guidelines for renewable energy plants, which the city council adopted earlier this year.

Here, among other things, there is a desire that applicants in future should focus more on the neighbors and surroundings of the energy plants. This must be done to ensure that there is support for renewable energy plants among the local population.

The revision means, among other things, that applicants must engage in dialogue with the local communities where they want to set up plants for the production of renewable energy to an even greater extent.

He adds that the city council wants to ensure local support for the renewable energy projects and therefore encourages applicants to consider the municipal plan's draft new guidelines for renewable energy plants and the city council's political signals before submitting a project application.

In addition to describing opportunities for multifunctionality, including the removal of low-lying soils, increased biodiversity, afforestation, recreational initiatives, etc., both documents focus on the fact that the installation of renewable energy plants is planned with much greater consideration for the local community.

- When we have set the deadline for project applications for March 1st next year, it depends, among other things, on together with the fact that the guidelines as well as the political signals assume that you have explored the possibilities and held local citizen meetings before submitting your final application, says Ole Nyholm Knudsen.
