European Energy has won its first Contracts-for-Difference (CfD) in France. The French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) has awarded the company two contracts for the agrivoltaic projects Les Mathiaux and La Forge in the commune of Saint-Voir in Allier, the developer said in a press release.

Agrivoltaic projects combine solar energy with agricultural production. The two European Energy projects have a total capacity of 21.2 MW, of which 15 MW are covered by the CfD contracts. They have been under development since 2021 and are planned in line with France's regulations for agrivoltaic plants. The projects also take into account the requirements later established by the APER law, which aims to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy.

- The selection of the projects in Saint-Voir confirms our ability to develop projects that comply with national regulations and at the same time create value for local agricultural activities while integrating environmental concerns, says Nicolas König, VP and Country Manager for France at European Energy.

Construction of the parks is expected to begin within the coming years, with the plants scheduled to be commissioned in 2027. European Energy currently has a project portfolio of over 1 GW in France and sees the award as a step towards further growth and collaboration in the French market.

- France is a key market for European Energy with a development pipeline that continues to expand across multiple technologies. Projects like those in Saint-Voir demonstrate the breadth and maturity of the portfolio under development in the country, and we expect Saint-Voir to be the first of many, says Thorvald Spanggaard, EVP and Head of Project Development at European Energy.
