In 2025, electric vehicles will have overtaken petrol and diesel among new registrations on Danish roads. According to new figures from Statistics Denmark, 63 per cent of newly registered vehicles are electric, when looking at passenger cars, vans and trucks combined. This is stated by TEKNIQ in a press release.

- It is fantastic news that we have now passed the point where green transport is the preferred choice. It is particularly encouraging to see how the business community has taken up the gauntlet, where the share of electric vans has doubled in just one year. This clearly shows that the will for the green transition is present in companies, says Nicolai Siegumfeldt, deputy director of TEKNIQ, which organizes companies in the technical business community.

The development applies to both private and commercial vehicles and marks a shift where electric operation is now predominant across vehicle types. Especially among vans, the share of electric has increased significantly in the past year, after the business community had previously been more reluctant due to, among other things, range, price and practical considerations in everyday life.

According to the figures, the share of newly registered electric vans has thus increased from 15 percent in 2024 to 31 percent. in 2025. The level is still below the share for passenger cars, but above the share for trucks, which have also experienced progress from 2024 to 2025.

- The figures for 2025 indicate that barriers such as price differences and range are fading into the background in favor of the many positive elements that come with driving sustainably. This could have a major impact on the future, as vans drive many kilometers on the roads every day. In order to maintain momentum in this development, there is a need to continue working on expanding the charging infrastructure, says Nicolai Siegumfeldt.
