Despite major delays in most of Energinet's projects, chairman of the board Mogens Lykketoft is now defending the management of the state-owned energy company. Four out of five projects are delayed, but Lykketoft believes that the management has done what it could under difficult circumstances. This is reported by Finans, which has reported on the delays in recent days.
According to Lykketoft, Energinet has experienced significantly increasing demand from both electricity producers and consumers in recent years. At the same time, the authorities' case processing time has exploded, and deliveries of key components have been delayed.
- The delays are mainly due to the fact that Energinet has encountered a tsunami of challenges in an incredibly short time that it has had no control over, says Mogens Lykketoft, chairman of the board of Energinet.
By the end of 2024, 141 out of 179 electricity grid projects were delayed. Critics – including experts, business organizations and politicians from both sides – point out that the company has had several decades to prepare for market changes and should have taken known risks into account. At Christiansborg, this has led to demands for impartial investigations and consultations with the Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard (M)
Lykketoft denies that this is an expression of poor management and expresses confidence in CEO Thomas Egebo. As part of the solution to the problems, Energinet has now been given the opportunity to take greater financial risks, including by purchasing components for storage. At the same time, legislative changes have been announced that will reduce the need for environmental screening of a number of projects in the future.
