European Energy has started building Sweden's first large-scale hybrid park in Skåramåla. This will be done by building 49 hectares of solar cells in the immediate vicinity of already existing wind turbines.

European Energy notes that by co-locating the plants, the land is used more optimally, and the electricity can also use the same grid connection.

- Although there are large areas in Sweden, we need to optimize land use to meet various public interests. Here we have found a way to construct a hybrid plant in a forest area with low natural values that is already used for wind power, says Peter Braun, country manager for European Energy in Sweden.

In total, the hybrid plant will be able to produce 163 GWh of green electricity per year, which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of 32,600 households. 38 GWh will come from the solar cell park, and the rest from wind power.

- The combination of solar and wind means that we get increased production and a more balanced output. Wind and solar complement each other well because they have different production times during the day and throughout the year, says Peter Braun.

The solar park is expected to be connected to the grid before the end of 2024.
