NORDDJURS: Kejsegården has been the subject of one of the biggest debates about solar parks in East Jutland in recent years. Partly because the plans have been underway for almost seven years without a single megawatt of solar energy being delivered. And partly because local politicians have repeatedly reduced the possible size of the solar park.
Originally, 240 hectares were on the drawing board. Most recently, the municipal council in Norddjurs has reduced it to 80 hectares. And that reduction has been too much for the company European Energy. In an email to TV2 Østjylland they state that they are out of the project.
- European Energy has, based on a reduced project area, decided to withdraw from the collaboration to establish a solar cell project at Ålsrode in Djursland, says the email from Mathias Berg, head of market regulation at European Energy.
The owners of the land at Kejsegården, which is located on the outskirts of the village of Ålsrode in eastern Djursland, are now left alone with the solar cell project.
- We are of course sad about it. A lot of effort has been put into it from our side, European Energy's side and the municipality's side. But if it doesn't make sense financially, then it doesn't make sense, says Aage Nicolajsen from Kejsegården.
According to him, they received the message from European Energy shortly before the municipal elections.
- We haven't decided yet what it means for us. We haven't taken a position on that yet. We have asked to leave the project with the municipality. We are now considering how we will deal with it, says Aage Nicolajsen.
Can no longer be connected to high-voltage lines
The project has now reached a size where it can no longer be connected to Energinet's high-voltage lines. Instead, it can be connected to another local electricity grid. Here, the lines have to be laid much further to be connected, and it is more expensive. This is stated by both European Energy and Aage Nicolajsen.
The solar cell plans have met with great local resistance throughout. Originally because the first version of the project could have surrounded large parts of the village of Ålsrode.
Most recently, at a municipal council meeting on June 18 last year, several neighbors cheered that the municipal council had adjusted the possible size of the solar park down.
European Energy writes in an email that the decision to pull the plug "comes after thorough consideration and dialogue with the municipality in continuation of the municipal council choosing to reduce the project area last year.
- We have project development in many municipalities around and have now decided to concentrate on the development and establishment of renewable energy projects elsewhere in the country, writes Mathias Berg, head of market regulation at European Energy.
In August, European Energy also withdrew from a solar project in Studstrup near Aarhus.
