FREDERICIA: The cities that adapt to new, green and sustainable principles will be the winners of the future.
This is stated in Fredericia Municipality's 2033 vision, where it is made clear that it intends to be one of the winners. The municipality highlights its geographical location and infrastructure, which provide opportunities to "reach new heights when it comes to national and international climate goals."
Therefore, the city council wants to ensure the framework so that new, green energy adventures can unfold in Fredericia, where there are already a number of prominent companies within green technologies such as Power-to-X and a port that in the future aims to be able to receive captured CO2, which will subsequently be transported further to the North Sea.
However, the new green image has not been successful everywhere, and therefore the municipality has entered into a contract with the communications agency Operate, which will help the municipality become "Denmark's green hub". The agreement is worth 1.5 million DKK, according to a document obtained by Fredericia Dagblad.
Initially, projects worth DKK 750,000 have been initiated, while the remaining efforts are awaiting the green light from the municipality.
Must reach the civil service
The communications agency must strengthen the municipality's green narrative and not only target citizens via traditional communication channels, but also directly to politicians and the civil service at Christiansborg.
Fredericia wants to attract companies within the hydrogen industry, where it is part of the so-called Triangle Energy Alliance, an energy partnership that will build on the Triangle area's infrastructure with a view to a national Power to X ecosystem.
However, those ambitions suffered a setback earlier this year.
Here it was announced that although Fredericia would soon be home to Europe's largest hydrogen factory, the much-discussed hydrogen pipeline that will connect Denmark and Germany would not go to Fredericia in the first place.
At the time, CEO of the hydrogen company Everfuel Jacob Krogsgaard said that Fredericia had unfortunately been "put on the sidelines".
Therefore, we need to strengthen our access to politicians at Christiansborg, believes Mayor Christian Bro (S).
- If you want something to be implemented, it is almost more important that you influence the civil service. Because they are the ones who make the case and dress the politicians, he tells Fredericia Dagblad.
