DTU's national innovation center for PtX has received a new grant of 80 million DKK from the Villum Foundation. At the same time, the center is changing its name from VILLUM PtX Accelerator to Green X Accelerator, and the work is extended until 2031. This is stated in a press release by DTU.

Since 2022, the center has focused on bringing PtX research closer to the market. With the new grant, this effort continues, while the name change marks an ambition to be able to work with a broader range of sustainable technologies in the long term.

- VILLUM PtX Accelerator has built up precisely the competence and experience needed to bring technical research into society, where it can benefit. This work is now being continued and expanded, making Denmark both greener, richer and more resilient, says Anders Bjarklev, Rector of DTU.

In addition to the PtX track, the ambition is that the center will also be able to work with two new tracks in the future: solutions that support the transition from fossil energy to green electricity, and the development of new green materials that can be extracted and recycled sustainably. The center is working to secure funding for the two new tracks.

The efforts at the center include support for research projects in the form of funding, laboratory access and consulting, so that technologies can mature towards prototype or proof-of-concept and thus be brought closer to commercialization.

- If we are to succeed in the green transition, we must have brought more strong research into play outside the universities. We are proud of the work that VILLUM P2X Accelerator has already done. With the new Green X Accelerator and our support for the Power-to-X track, we are further accelerating the development of green technologies that can make a real difference, says Thomas Bjørnholm, Research Director at Villum Fonden.

The new grant period and name change will take effect on June 1, 2026.
