BORNHOLM: Jacob Trøst recently returned home to Bornholm after a green inspiration trip to Esbjerg and Skive together with other politicians, business people, industry organizations and educational institutions. And there was a lot of inspiration to be found in both Skive and Esbjerg.

- The two cities have a lot in common with Bornholm. Esbjerg has had fishing and has gone through a transition, which we have also had. We were in Skive because of Greenlab Skive, says Jacob Trøst and elaborates on the Esbjerg visit first:

- We have an energy island on the way, and we need to get the most out of it. We should be inspired by how Esbjerg has managed to create green jobs and bring technological education to the city.

It is important for the conservative mayor to bring new green education to the island.

- We would like to lay the groundwork for new technological education, among other things, together with DTU, says Trøst.

Esbjerg and Bornholm are currently some of the few places in Denmark from which the coveted work of shipping wind turbines for ports takes place.

- We both ship wind turbines, and we would like to learn how our companies can make us even more attractive to turbine manufacturers, it is said.

Climate vocational school

Some very concrete ideas have even emerged from the visit on the education front.

- We have talked about the fact that we can jointly bid for a climate vocational school. It should be that the students should have modules both on Bornholm and in Esbjerg. Then there will be cooperation across the country, says Jacob Trøst about an education that will closely resemble real working life in the green sector.

On Bornholm, there are also already plans for housing for students who may come from Esbjerg in the future.

- We are working on creating a residential college on Bornholm, where there will then be the opportunity to live, says the mayor.

The meaning of it all is also clear to him.

- It is no secret that we have a vision of getting more residents to Bornholm. In this way, more people will see what Bornholm can do. That is how I myself discovered Bornholm and moved here. That is our overall goal, says Jacob Trøst.

There was also something to learn about PtX for the people of Bornholm.

In Esbjerg, there are already plans to build two one GW PtX plants, and when the green electricity is collected on the energy island of Bornholm, PtX will also be brought to the island.

- What are the possibilities for PtX, for example, how can you use all the excess heat that is generated in the process. We heard some good solutions for that, says Jacob Trøst.

Skive

The Limfjord town of Skive and Bornholm have more in common than you might think under the motto outskirts and water's edge.

- We are comparable in many ways. We both have a large coastline and are located far away from larger cities. Skive Municipality has 45,000 inhabitants and Bornholm has approximately 40,000. We learned from Skive how to act as a municipality in the planning phase of something like Greenlab Skive, says Trøst.

Here the green circular economy was in full focus.

- Among other things, we visited Quantafuel, which makes waste products for waste. We also saw how biogas plants produce fertilizer as a residual product for the fields in addition to biogas, says Jacob Trøst and adds:

- I believe that we should give something to nature every time we take something. I think it's a mindset that will become bigger and bigger in the future.

There's also one thing that Jacob Trøst is particularly happy about about the trip to Jutland.

- We've only met open doors, and I'm incredibly happy that we were received so well, concludes Jacob Trøst.

The trip was arranged by the Danish Chamber of Commerce and the National Center for Green Energy.
