European Energy has invested between 2 and 2.5 million DKK in buying up land for nature since an agreement with the Danish Nature Foundation was signed almost a year ago. This is reported by the daily newspaper Børsen.
- It has been a really important project for us, because there is an increasing importance of incorporating nature into our business. And I think we have succeeded in that,
says Thorvald Spanggaard, who is executive vice president for project development at European Energy.
The agreement means that European Energy donates a piece of land to the Danish Nature Foundation every time the company takes up land for solar or wind energy. So far, they have donated an area of approximately 18 hectares, which is part of larger areas near Vejle and in North Jutland. At the same time, solar and wind energy has been installed on around 1,700 hectares.
- I think it's enough for us to make a difference. Would it be better if we doubled it? Yes, it would from a biodiversity point of view,
says Thorvald Spanggaard.
In the coming year, he expects that European Energy can donate an additional 18 hectares of nature, but details about new projects remain undisclosed.
