Hydrogen industry after offshore wind plan: Focus must now be on off-take and green fuels

Following the new agreement on offshore wind, the Hydrogen Industry calls for political focus on increased demand for green electricity and production of hydrogen and PtX fuels.

With the political agreement on offshore wind in place, the industry organization Brintbranchen believes that the next step should be to increase the demand for green electricity and secure the framework for a massive expansion of the production of hydrogen and green PtX fuels.

- With today's agreement, clarification has been provided after the failed tender in December. Now there is a need for us to take the next step, namely to increase the demand for green electricity. There is a massive need to strengthen the production of green PtX fuels - both for the sake of the climate, security of supply and the economy, and this should be the next political focus area, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen, CEO of Brintbranchen, in a press release.

He emphasizes that hydrogen and PtX play a central role in utilizing green electricity and ensuring that it reaches sectors such as shipping, aviation and industry. The hydrogen industry is calling for a plan for the next steps and at the same time points out that there are initiatives that can be launched immediately - including national PtX tenders via the EU's hydrogen bank and better implementation of EU regulations in the area.

According to the hydrogen industry, the government's proposals for minimum solutions in the Renewable Energy Sources III Directive are insufficient if Denmark wants to maintain its position as a green pioneer nation.

- The minimum solutions that the government is proposing regarding the Renewable Energy Sources III Directive are clearly not good enough if we want to ensure the best integration and utilization of green electricity and otherwise remain a green frontrunner. On the contrary, we must boost demand for green fuels - also in Denmark, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen.
