LYNGBY-TAARBÆK: An exclusive license for the company Innargi A/S to explore and extract geothermal energy at Virum north of Copenhagen has come closer, according to Dansk Fjernvarme.
As soon as a statement from Climate Minister Lars Aagaard (M) has been submitted to the Danish Parliament's Climate, Energy and Utilities Committee, the license will be granted to Innargi, it says.
It appears from the statement from the minister to the committee that the application from the company was submitted more than a year ago, in August 2024, and that it applies to exploration and extraction of geothermal energy for the purpose of district heating supply in an area near Virum.
Down to 2800 meters
The company plans to drill at a depth of approx. 1600 meters down to about 2800 meters - referred to as Lower Cretaceous down to the Bunter Sandstone Formation.
Innargi has, as it is described, "knowledge of the geology of the Virum area partly from collected seismic data and partly from Innargi A/S' previous permit for exploration and extraction of geothermal energy in Copenhagen from 2021".
Because the geology of the area is sufficiently known, a permit will be granted for an exploration period of five years, although permits are generally granted for a six-year period.
According to the upcoming permit, the company has the right to request an extension of up to 30 years if the company ends up wanting to convert the exploration into actual heat production.
Innargi A/S is owned by ATP, NRGI and AP Møller Holding.
