There are now 96 electricity prices published per day, instead of the previous 24. But interest in utilizing the new pricing model is so far limited, according to two of the country's largest electricity companies. (Archive photo).

Two of the country's largest electricity companies - Andel Energi and Norlys Energi - report moderate interest in a new option for quarter-hour billing for electricity.

From October 1, electricity prices on the European electricity market will be set for each quarter rather than for each hour as previously.

- Demand has been very limited here in the first 14 days with the new products, Norlys states in a response to Ritzau.

Andel Energi has received a number of inquiries from customers who would like to hear more about the options. This is according to CEO Marlene Holmgaard Fris.

- There has not been a storm of telephone calls, but we have experienced a number of customers who are curious. Especially from customers who already have a heat pump or electric car, she says.

The new price model has been introduced because solar and wind are increasingly taking up the electricity system. This also means that production fluctuates more within the same hour.

For many private households, the savings that can be made by switching to the new model are relatively limited, says Marlene Holmgaard Fris.

- Right now, it is not the case that there is a huge gain to be made. But we expect that we have only seen the beginning of the entire flexibility market.

- In the future, there will be greater and greater fluctuations in the price of electricity, so there will be money to save if you have a heat pump, electric car or perhaps a household battery, she says.

For electricity companies with less than 200,000 customers, it is voluntary whether they want to offer electricity products based on the new price model. But electricity companies such as Norlys Energi and Andel Energi, both of which have more than 200,000 customers, will have to offer electricity products based on quarter prices from October 1.

However, far from all electricity meters are designed to be able to read consumption every quarter.

Several electricity grid companies, which are regional companies that own the electricity meters, are planning the rollout of new meters.

If you can't wait for that, you can order a new meter from your electricity grid company. However, this will be at the consumers' own expense.
