The work of planning the development of the Svanemølle Power Plant and the surrounding area has now officially begun. The City of Copenhagen has taken the first steps towards preparing a local plan that can ensure a combination of culture, business and green energy solutions. This is stated by the City of Copenhagen in a statement.

The plans include, among other things, the furnishing of the Technical Museum of Denmark in the building worthy of preservation and the establishment of a new and more climate-friendly district heating plant. In addition, opportunities will be investigated to improve urban spaces and develop Lautrupkaj with an eye to the maritime environment.

- The Svanemølle Power Plant is one of my favorite buildings in Copenhagen. For me, it is the cathedral of industrialization, which with the plans here can be opened to the public and unite the past with the future. At the same time, plans are being made for more sustainable district heating for Copenhageners with a new plant, says the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen Lars Weiss.

The proposal for the local plan, which covers an area of approximately 30,000 m2, will include a new district heating plant, businesses and offices, and a possible hotel at Kalkbrænderihavnsgade. In addition, a smaller new building is planned at the tip of the pier, as well as improved promenades and urban spaces. The final local plan is expected to be adopted during 2026.
