PensionDanmark and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have jointly established the company Plexar Energy, which will develop and operate microgrids based on renewable energy.
The initiative will enable a greener electricity supply for large electricity consumers such as transport companies and industrial production – without burdening the existing electricity grid.
The microgrids will be operated with locally installed solar or wind energy combined with batteries. This will ensure a stable electricity supply, also in areas with capacity challenges. According to Rune Gade Holm, Head of Private Markets at PensionDanmark, microgrids are a necessary solution if Denmark is to electrify heavy transport and industry.
- New platforms are needed to be able to lead the green transition of the energy system into a new phase, where it can really happen in areas such as heavy transport and industry. Microgrids can become a central element in the energy supply of the future, and therefore we see an attractive investment opportunity in the concept we have developed together with CIP, which will also increase the sustainability of the energy supply,” says Rune Gade Holm.
The microgrids will be supplied by energy sources installed on site such as solar or wind combined with battery capacity to ensure stable supply. Plexar Energy will offer a standardized solution for microgrids that is able to interact with the local electricity grid.
This provides customers with a robust electricity supply, while at the same time resolving capacity challenges in the electricity grid, explains partner at CIP and CEO of Plexar Energy, Karsten Plauborg:
- Electrification has become a path to improved competitiveness for many companies, and microgrids provide fast and cost-effective access to large amounts of electricity, which is in demand in many sectors.
