The chairman is satisfied: No wind turbines directly next to Thy National Park

The wind turbine plans at Hanstholm Harbour will not affect the national park, but they still come close to another of the area's attractions.

Torben Juul-Olsen will leave his position as chairman of Thy National Park at the turn of the year after having served two possible terms as chairman. He is pleased that there will be no wind turbines at Hanstholm Harbour directly adjacent to the national park.

- The plans have now been changed so that the two southern turbines adjacent to the national park have been completely removed. We can see this in the plans from the municipal council, says Torben Juul-Olsen and elaborates:

- Now the turbines will be behind the buildings at the harbor itself, and they will not move into the national park area.

Majority says no to the turbines

Even though Torben Juul-Olsen is about to leave his chairmanship, it will most likely not change the board's position.

- There is a majority on our board against turbines out to the national park, and we are keeping an eye on the situation, says Torben Juul-Olsen.

He is satisfied with the current plans.

- I am satisfied that we will not be directly affected. But I would have preferred to see the turbines placed in a completely different place, explains Torben Juul-Olsen.

This is partly because the turbines will be close to one of the local attractions.

- The North Atlantic Lighthouse in Hanstholm will be directly affected, states Torben Juul-Olsen and emphasizes that he has nothing against wind turbines:

- I myself helped set up the wind turbines that face north here in Hanstholm, when I was twice acting as director of the Port of Hanstholm.

The 76-year-old Torben Juul-Olsen has had to step in as port director twice for a total period of one and a half years, both in 2014 and again in 2015. In 2014, this happened when the then port director Birgitte Juhl Svendson was fired, and again in 2015, when Henrik Carstensen, after a short time as director of Hanstholm Port, moved to the position of port director in Grenå.

Torben Juul-Olsen was technical director of Thisted Municipality before his retirement.
