Dynamica Ropes expands with new factory hall and another braiding machine

There is great confidence in the future of wind and especially floating offshore wind, where everything is getting bigger and bigger.

It was not long ago than the spring of 2022 that DOI.dk was last able to report that Dynamica Ropes expanded with Denmark's largest braiding machine for ropes for heavy lifting within both the wind and oil and gas industries.

But now the excavation for another factory hall of 2000 m2 and with a new braiding machine is in full swing. There is already a need for another braiding machine to keep up with demand. Here, floating offshore wind in particular has been an overwhelming demand. There has been a great deal of innovation-minded engineering firms that have approached us in droves. The engineers wanted to know what Dynamica Ropes products such as moorings could be used for, in addition to price and production time.

- There was a time when we called it the floating windmill of the week, says CEO and owner of Dynamica Ropes Jørgen Sørensen.

- And there was more than one inquiry a week. We experienced a lot of work pressure, adds sales manager Kate Christensen and elaborates:

- It was both the large engineering companies down to companies with three employees. They also want to know what our products can do and what they can be used for.

Working on solutions for energy companies

The director has no doubt why so many engineers are approaching us.

- It is the development companies that probe the market and come up with concepts, and then it is the large energy companies that will carry out the projects, says Jørgen Sørensen about the many inquiries about moorings for floating wind projects.

In the meantime, the many inquiries have almost stopped.

- We experienced that it stopped abruptly, although we still receive a few inquiries, says Kate Christensen.

The company owner also has an explanation for what is happening right now.

- You could say that before there were many people going down a funnel, now we are further along, where there are fewer left. Now the calculations are being done by both the engineers and the individual business cases by the economists, says Jørgen Sørensen and concludes one thing:

- Now people have realized that it will take time. That does not mean that the projects are dead.

Some engineering companies have been somewhat of a surprise at what ropes for large floating offshore wind turbines can cost.

- We have calculated on large projects in Asia, where we were up to DKK 25-30 million for mooring for a floating offshore wind turbine, says Kate Christensen.

It is like the time before Henrik Stiesdal's "TetraSpar Demonstration" floating offshore wind turbine, but now there are more projects on the way. It is a project that Dynamica Ropes supplied for.

- I expect there will be pilot projects. Now the theory must be put into practice, says Jørgen Sørensen.

Confidence in the future

The big orders have not yet been placed in the order book, but there is full confidence in the future at Dynamica Ropes in Taulov.

- It has entered the next phase, and we are hearing about up to 300 different concepts. And we have the utmost confidence that many projects will come to fruition, says Kate Christensen.

That is also why construction work is underway at the company.

- We are digging out the new factory hall, where lifting slings for heavy lifting will be made. It can be for lifting wind turbine parts or lifting entire substations. Today we can make slings up to a breaking strength of 4,000 tons, and next year we will make lifting slings with a breaking strength of up to 8,000 tons. And these slings will mainly be for renewables, but also for the oil and gas industry, says Jørgen Sørensen.

But it is not only the breaking strength that will be increased.

- We will also be able to make slings over 100 meters, and we will be able to do that, the director promises.

Dynamica Ropes is at the forefront of future production and development, and today customers know about the production time.

- The companies have realized that it takes time to produce these slings. And we are better equipped to handle the large, heavy slings and moorings than we were when we produced for Stiesdal's "TetraSpar Demonstration", says Kate Christensen.

When the big orders come, the company is ready with braiding machines for the production of even larger and longer slings.

- We put our profits into the expansion, says Kate Christensen about a conscious approach that is not new to the company.

- It has been that way all the way from the beginning. Our company is a little baby that needs to be nursed, says Jørgen Sørensen with a warm smile.
