Emma Ford is the head of Ørsted's offshore wind farms Walney, located off Barrow-in-Furness, and Burbo Bank in Liverpool Bay on the west coast of England. Together, the farms deliver 1.4 GW of green energy to the UK grid and employ around 250 people. Ørsted writes in a press release.

– Our greatest assets are not our turbines, but the people who keep them running safely. We must take care of our people first. From appreciating the small victories to giving people space to be authentic, themselves. I want my energy to inspire my team to challenge and exploit their unique strengths. A diverse team with different skills helps me see the goal, but their expertise finds the most effective ways to achieve it. I really appreciate the yin to my yang when we face challenges, says Emma Ford, who joined Ørsted earlier this year.

Ford has a background as a geotechnical engineer and experience from National Grid, but it is working with people and green energy that drives her.

“My son says ‘mummy makes the windmills turn so the lights can come on’. It motivates me to work for a better future for future generations,” she says.

As part of her new plan, Emma Ford has committed to being more present among the technicians offshore.

“I often bring a snack and encourage the team to take ten minutes together on top of the turbine to check in with each other. It is important to me to create a culture where there is room for challenges and where mental well-being is prioritized,
she says.

Benj Sykes, head of Ørsted's UK region, highlights Ford as an important leader:
– Emma's industry knowledge and passion for people have already created a number of positive changes in a short time. Her fresh perspective has given the team the space to challenge and collaborate even better. I look forward to working more with Emma and experiencing even more results.
