Aabenraa District Heating is investing 8.5 million DKK in a new project that will utilize surplus heat from the cooling system at Sygehus Sønderjylland in Aabenraa for district heating production.  This is what Dansk Fjernvarme writes.

The project involves the establishment of a new heat pump center that is connected directly to the hospital's cooling system. The technology is supplied by Danfoss and has already been in operation at the hospital in Sønderborg since June 2024.

- We are investing in the project because we see great prospects in utilizing surplus heat from the hospital for district heating production, says Tommy Palmholt, CEO of Aabenraa Fjernvarme.

Aabenraa Fjernvarme can look forward to annual operating savings of approximately DKK 200,000 over 20 years, and the new heat source will replace part of the current heating with wood chips. The project has just been approved and is expected to be operational in the spring of 2026.

Aabenraa Fjernvarme already receives surplus heat from European Energy's PtX plant in Kassø.
