Power has been restored to all citizens on Bornholm after a major power outage on Wednesday. This is according to the utility company Trefor in a press release.

The power went out to the entire island at around 10:16 a.m. on Wednesday due to a technical fault at Trefor El-Net Øst, which distributes electricity on Bornholm.

According to Trefor, it was a fault that overloaded the submarine cable between Bornholm and Sweden. This led to the cable being disconnected.

As Bornholm is supplied through the submarine cable, the entire island lost power.

Shortly after 11:10 a.m., the submarine cable, operated by Energinet, was reconnected.

At 12:30 p.m., the first Bornholm residents received power again. By 2 p.m., power had been restored to everyone on Bornholm.

After the reconnection of the submarine cable, Trefor El-Net Øst began work to restore power to the almost 30,000 households and businesses on Bornholm.

Over 18,000 households affected

Trefor writes that the work required physical visits to the island to check installations.

The utility company has previously said that 18,572 households were affected by the power outage.

Initially, the company also said that people on Bornholm would have to be patient, as power was not expected to be restored until 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Due to the lack of power, people on Bornholm could also experience intermittent supply of water, heating and communication throughout the island. the island.

However, the failing electricity supply did not shut down all operations on the island.

For example, Bornholm Hospital has its own generator and was therefore still in operation, just as the Bornholm Line was not immediately affected by the breakdown.
