Large price increase - but Cerius-Radius' winter tariffs will be lower than previously announced

The higher winter tariffs will come into effect on October 1. However, the grid companies Cerius-Radius will not raise the tariffs to the previously announced level, and this is due, among other things, to the fact that electricity prices have stabilized at a lower level over the past six months.
21. SEP 2023 10.41

On October 1, it will be significantly more expensive for customers of the grid companies Cerius-Radius. Here, the companies' winter tariffs come into effect. At Cerius, the price during the peak load period will increase from 69.35 øre/kWh to 126.66, and at Radius, the peak load price from October 1 until March will be 136.68 øre/kWh, compared to 73.59 in the summer period.

The reason for the price increases is the tariff model that was introduced on January 1, 2023. It reflects the fact that it is more expensive to have electricity transported to your home between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., and has lower tariffs in the summer than in the winter, as the load on the electricity grid is greater in the winter.

The winter tariffs are intended to increase the incentive for consumers to shift consumption away from the expensive hours when the electricity grid is most loaded. The tariff model is designed in such a way that consumers' tariffs reflect the load on the electricity grid both during the day and the year, because it is the load that dictates the need to expand the electricity grid.

Although these are significantly higher tariffs, they are not as high as previously announced. When the winter tariffs come into effect, Cerius-Radius has chosen to use the opportunity to reduce prices.

The price reduction means that customers' annual bill for the tariffs will be reduced by 750 million DKK excl. VAT, which initially means that the winter tariffs will not be as high as electricity customers in Eastern Denmark would otherwise have been expected to be. The originally announced prices in Cerius and Radius in peak load were 160.03 øre/kWh and 169.80 øre/kWh.

- Customers will experience a price jump in tariffs from October 1 compared to the summer, when we now switch to winter tariffs again, because the load on the electricity grid is greatest in winter between 5 pm and 9 pm. However, our tariff reduction means that the winter tariffs will not be as high as at the beginning of the year. We can make a price reduction, as electricity prices have stabilized at a lower level, and overall for a household, this is a tariff reduction of 20 percent, says Cäthe Bay-Smidt, head of the grid companies.

When the tariffs peaked in February, it cost approx. two kroner per kWh. between 5 pm and 9 pm. 17 and 21.
