The state wants to take over Knudshoved Port on Funen to secure itself against a prolonged closure of the Great Belt Bridge. This is what Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen (V) tells TV 2.

- In general, we live in an uncertain and turbulent time, where we know that infrastructure and hubs are interesting targets. Therefore, it is timely that we now also look ahead in the event of that situation, he says.

The purchase will be made through the state-owned company Sund & Bælt, which has also purchased Halsskov Ferry Port on Zealand. The purchase was announced on Monday. The ports are thus located on opposite sides of the bridge.

The owner of Knudshoved Port has told Jyllands-Posten that he has received an email from the minister stating that the state has chosen to buy the port. There have therefore been no negotiations between the parties.

- Thomas Danielsen writes that the state has decided to acquire the former ferry berths in Halskov and Knudshoved. And when the state wants to take over your property, it is expropriation, says the owner of the port, Peter Poulsen, to the newspaper.

On Monday, Slagelse Municipality announced that it had sold Halsskov Ferry Port to Sund & Bælt. Sund & Bælt has planned a major reconstruction of the port, which is also expected to be used for future maintenance work on the Great Belt Bridge.

- At the moment, the port is not suitable for ferry operations, and it will require a major reconstruction and investment to make it ready. Therefore, it is necessary for us to take over ownership, says Søren Ulrik Hillersborg, Technical Operations Director at Sund & Bælt.

The two ports were used until 1998 by the Great Belt Ferries, which transported cars from one island to the other until the bridge was ready.
