Opposition to solar parks as neighbors is growing

More Danes see solar parks as an unwanted neighbor – especially in South Jutland, shows a new survey from YouGov and Home.

More Danes do not want a solar park as a neighbor. A new survey from YouGov for the real estate agency chain home shows that 7.2 percent now consider a solar park to be one of the three most undesirable neighbors – an increase from 4.1 percent in 2023. This moves solar parks from 14th to 10th place on the list of undesirable neighbors. This is stated by the real estate agency chain Home in a press release.

Although solar parks are increasing the most in opposition, wind turbines and biogas plants are still more unpopular neighbors. Wind turbines are in 9th place, with 8.4 percent of Danes describing them as an undesirable neighbor, while biogas plants take 7th place with 15 percent. This means that both types of energy plants are still higher than solar parks on the top 15 list.

The development in opposition to solar cells is driven in particular by South Jutland, where 13 percent now see solar parks as one of the most undesirable neighbors – a threefold increase compared to last year. There has also been a clear increase in North Zealand (12 percent) and West and South Zealand (9 percent). The lowest is West Jutland with only 2 percent.

- We are seeing a significant movement around solar parks, even though it is still a relatively small proportion that considers them to be some of the most undesirable neighbors. But the survey shows that they are increasingly coming onto the Danes' housing radar, says Michael Dalsager, spokesperson and senior communications consultant at home. He points out that new technical installations often create uncertainty among neighbors about views, noise and home value.

The study is based on responses from 1,036 Danes over the age of 18 and was conducted in November 2025. It shows that nationwide, solar parks, wind turbines and biogas plants still rank below classic noise and traffic neighbors such as railways (26.4 percent) and busy roads (28.3 percent). Discos and bars open at night still top the list as the most undesirable neighbors among Danes.
