Inflation in the US - that is, the annual increase in US consumer prices - was calculated at 2.3 percent in April. This is according to a calculation from the US Department of Labor on Tuesday afternoon Danish time. In comparison, the annual increase in US consumer prices was 2.4 percent in March. Inflation is thus remaining relatively stable, writes Jeppe Juul Borre, chief economist at Arbejdernes Landsbank, in a comment.
- Not long ago, it could have seemed like a tight deadline, where drastic tariff increases had the potential to pull up US inflation. But at the moment, slightly milder winds are blowing over the tariff situation, and the risk of a noticeable increase in US inflation has evaporated a little. And inflation is remaining stable for now, it is said.
A definite tariff war between China and the US has unfolded in recent weeks, after US President Donald Trump raised tariffs as part of a larger economic plan. This led to the two countries taking turns raising tariffs on each other's goods.
On Monday, both countries announced that they would significantly reduce the high tariffs on each other's goods for a period of 90 days. The United States is reducing tariffs on Chinese goods from 145 percent to 30 percent, and China is reducing its tariffs on American goods from 125 percent to 10 percent.
