If you have replaced a gas boiler with a heat pump at the beginning of 2022, you have saved up to 15,600 kroner. This is what the interest organization Green Power Denmark writes in a press release.
Energy prices have skyrocketed across the board – regardless of whether you use electricity or gas – after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. But a heat pump utilizes energy better than a gas boiler, and this means that the savings have become greater. This is explained by Kristian Rune Poulsen, chief consultant at Green Power Denmark.
- Even though the price of gas and electricity has increased by about the same amount, the price increase will be smaller for the heat pump. This is because it may use a third or a quarter of the energy that a gas boiler uses, he says.
According to Green Power Denmark, the price of both electricity and gas has increased by around 250 percent. on the European energy exchanges in 2022. This means, according to the organization's calculations, that it cost DKK 28,726 to heat a 130 square meter house with natural gas. With a heat pump, it cost DKK 13,136.
- Before the energy crisis, it was a good idea to switch from a gas boiler to a heat pump. The economic advantage has only increased as energy prices have risen, says Kristian Rune Poulsen.
Heat pump makes particular sense without district heating
According to Kristian Rune Poulsen, it makes particular sense to consider investing in a heat pump if you have a gas boiler and cannot be connected to the district heating network.
District heating is the most widespread source of supply for heat in Denmark. It is used in about two out of three homes, according to Statistics Denmark.
In 2022, there were 176,240 buildings that were heated by a heat pump. That was just under 32,500 more than the year before. This is according to figures from Statistics Denmark.
The statistics go back to 2011. The number of heat pumps has increased every year since. Around 370,000 buildings are heated by natural gas.
