Two Russian fighter jets violated the security zone around an oil rig in the Baltic Sea on Friday, the Polish border guard said on Friday, Reuters reports.

According to the news agency, the rig belongs to the Polish company Petrobaltic.

The border guard also said that Poland's armed forces and other authorities have been notified. The report comes shortly after news that three Russian fighter jets violated Estonian airspace on the same day.

It is currently unclear whether the two incidents are connected.

According to the Estonian government, three Russian fighter jets flew into the country's airspace without permission and stayed there for 12 minutes.

- Russia has already violated Estonian airspace four times this year, which in itself is unacceptable. But today's incursion is unprecedentedly brazen, Margus Tsahkna, the country's foreign minister, said earlier Friday, according to the AFP news agency.

NATO responded promptly to the incident and "cut off" the Russian planes, wrote Allison Hart, a NATO spokesperson, in a post on X. Here she also described the episode as another example of Russia's "reckless" behavior.

Last week, a large number of drones were sent from Russia into Poland. According to Polish authorities, 19 drones flew over the country, and at least three were shot down.

Russian fighter jets have violated the airspace of European countries several times in the past.

Most recently in May, Russia sent a fighter jet into action when Estonia tried to detain a tanker in the Baltic Sea, which had been linked to the Russian shadow fleet.

This was stated by Estonia's Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, at the time, according to Reuters.
