In 2024, 49,482 homes were connected to district heating, so the total number of homes heated by district heating in Denmark is now 1,982,623. This is shown by new figures from Statistics Denmark. Dansk Fjernvarme writes in a press release.

The industry organization is pleased with the progress and sees it as a sign that district heating is still the Danes' preferred choice when it comes to heating their homes.

- Despite rising plant prices and falling gas prices, the Danes' absolute preferred choice, the future-proof green solution, is district heating. We see it as a strong signal that the Danes value comfort, security of supply and competitive prices, says Rune Moesgaard, political director of Dansk Fjernvarme.

Around two million this year

Since 2022, a total of 138,849 households have received district heating, and according to the industry organization, customer no. 2 million will be connected during 2025. The rollout continues, among other things, in the capital area, Holbæk and Silkeborg, where large conversion projects are underway.

- There are still many large conversion projects underway around Denmark, including in the capital area, Holbæk and Silkeborg - to name just a few areas where several thousand Danes will be connected to district heating in the coming years, says Rune Moesgaard.

With the latest increase, 69 percent of Danes now heat from district heating.
