Denmark has already used its share of the earth's resources for 2025 on March 19, according to the Global Footprint Network. This makes Denmark one of the most resource-intensive countries in the world.
However, this is a small improvement compared to 2024, when the day fell on March 16. Still, alarm bells are ringing, because if everyone had the same consumption pattern as Denmark, four earths would be needed. This is stated by Ecolabelling Denmark in a press release.
- The small choices we make every single day are important because we make so many of them, and therefore they can collectively have a great impact. We can all help take better care of the planet's resources by consuming less, says Rina Ronja Kari, head of communications for Ecolabelling Denmark, who encourages Danes to make greener choices in their everyday lives to reduce overconsumption.
Environmental labels such as the Nordic Ecolabel and the EU Ecolabel set strict requirements for products that reduce the overall climate footprint. According to Ecolabelling Denmark, these labels are a way for consumers to contribute to more sustainable development. The Nordic Ecolabel looks at the entire product life cycle to promote a circular economy and biodiversity. The label sets requirements for chemicals, durability and repair, which reduces resource consumption and climate impact.
