The number of over-burials of gas pipelines and pipes has decreased in 2024. This is the first time in five years that the development has gone in that direction. This is reported by Evida.

During the year, the company's emergency response team was called out 773 times in connection with damage to gas pipelines during excavation work. This is a decrease of almost 15 percent compared to 2023, when 908 over-burials carried out by external excavation operators were registered.

In recent years, Evida has been in close dialogue with contractors and has, among other things, initiated information and training to reduce the number of over-burials.

- Evida has had good dialogues with the industry about reducing the number of over-burials. It is positive that the joint effort is bearing fruit. However, the work is not over yet. Although the number of over-digging has decreased, there must still be a focus on avoiding over-digging, says Sune Holm, COO of Evida, in a press release.

The aim of the effort is to increase safety and reduce methane emissions. According to the company, over-digging poses a risk to both the safety of contractors and the environment.

In the first quarter of 2025, 187 over-diggings were registered. This corresponds to the level for the same period the previous year.
