CO2 Storage Kalundborg will hold an information meeting on Monday, June 30, at Snertinge Kro about the plans for a temporary facility with drilling equipment. The meeting will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and citizens will have the opportunity to hear more about the project and ask questions to representatives from the company. This is stated by CO2 Storage Kalundborg in a statement.
The meeting will be held as part of the company's next step in mapping the subsoil at Kalundborg. Since March 2025, CO2 Storage Kalundborg has used vehicles, ships and geophones in the area, and now a permit has been applied for to establish a temporary drilling facility in a field between Skippingevej and the wind turbines at Særslev.
- We fully understand that citizens in the area have questions about the temporary facility. That is why we are inviting you to an information meeting so that we can provide a clear insight into what is going to happen – and why. We want to be open and accessible throughout the process – and will therefore also hold several information meetings about the temporary facility during the autumn, says Ulrik Olbjørn, project manager at CO2 Storage Kalundborg.
The planned drilling work will reach approximately 1,900 meters underground to collect data and soil samples. Water will be used to simulate the conditions of potential CO2 storage. The project does not currently involve transport or storage of CO2. The facility is expected to be built in 2026, depending on the authorities' processing time. The investigations will take 2-4 months, after which the area will be re-established as agricultural land. The investigations at Kalundborg are being carried out to clarify whether the subsoil is suitable for safe and permanent storage of CO2 in the long term.
