The deadline for submitting final bids in connection with the state's pool of 28.7 billion DKK for the capture and storage of CO2 will be postponed from 17 December 2025 to 7 January 2026. This is stated by the Danish Energy Agency in a press release.
The postponement comes shortly after four municipal companies in the form of ARGO, Kredsløb, AffaldPlus and Fjernvarme Fyn announced in the past 24 hours that they will not bid for the funds. This is because, according to the companies, the framework conditions for the support are too unfavorable and place too much of the risk on the companies and their owner municipalities rather than the state.
However, it is not possible new framework conditions that are the reason for the postponement, according to the announcement from the Danish Energy Agency:
"The postponement of the deadline is based on the current consideration of a proposed bill that is intended to create clarity about the rules for energy taxation of the process for capturing CO2. The intention of the bill is to ensure uniform conditions for companies that capture CO2 with a view to subsequent geological storage," the announcement reads.
The legislative amendment is expected to enter into force on 1 January 2026, and the new deadline is intended to give potential bidders the opportunity to adapt their bids to the upcoming legislation.
The award of contracts is still expected to take place in April 2026, and the implementation of the pool depends on the EU Commission's state aid approval.
