A number of the largest Nordic industrial players are now joining forces in the Nordic Compass alliance to strengthen competitiveness and resilience in the Nordic region and Europe through closer public-private cooperation. Among the Danish participants are the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Chr. Augustinus Fabrikker, Danfoss and Ørsted. This is stated by the Business Think Tank in a press release.

According to the alliance, the collaboration will translate Nordic industrial positions of strength into concrete initiatives that can be implemented and scaled across countries. The first results are expected to be presented at the Nordic Compass Summit in Gothenburg in November.

The Nordic Compass board consists of profiles from across the Nordic region, including Lars Rebien Sørensen, former Prime Minister of Finland Jyrki Katainen and Norwegian businesswoman Kristin Skogen Lund. Christian Frigast and Henrik Skovby are general secretaries.

- World-class research and technological capacity are crucial competitive advantages for the Nordic region. By bringing together capital, research and companies across national borders, we can strengthen our shared ability to develop and implement solutions on a large scale. The Nordic countries are built on comparable institutions, values and social models, which enables us to cooperate both more closely and more effectively. At the same time, it positions the Nordic region as a credible role model for other regions in Europe, says Lars Rebien Sørensen, a board member of Nordic Compass and chairman of the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

According to the initiators, Nordic Compass will focus on four strategic areas during the first year, where business-driven initiatives will be identified and developed through Nordic cooperation.

The alliance brings together more than 25 Nordic companies, foundations and organizations, including Aker ASA, Alfa Laval, Ericsson, Nokia, Nordea, Saab, SEB, Vattenfall and Ørsted. Dalberg and the Business Think Tank are behind the initiative and are responsible for the daily operations.

Nordic Compass will also have a Nordic advisory board with, among others, Claus Jensen from Dansk Metal and Secretary General Karen Ellemann from the Nordic Council of Ministers.

In addition, the alliance will cooperate with business and interest organizations in the Nordic countries, including the Confederation of Danish Industry as an associated partner in Denmark.
